If children do not have a firm grasp of their math facts, these new math strategies and skills become more and more difficult with each passing year.įlashcard games are a great way to learn your math facts and have a little fun. They are multiplying, dividing, and subtracting all within one division problem. Students first begin to understand the importance of math facts when they learn long division. What so many of us forget is how much we use those skills in the upper grades and throughout high school. Here are some fun worksheets to help kids practice their multiplication facts.As a teacher, I would often get questions from parents, such as “Is it really important for my kids to know their math facts quickly?” Yes, it really is. More Multiplication Printables & Worksheets We often use these flashcards along with these printable division flashcards. It sounds like a lot of steps writing it out like that, but really the whole thing only takes a few short minutes each day, and really helps her speed and knowing them by memory. Sometimes I ask her to first say the factors out loud, before saying the product (answer), adding the sense of her hearing herself say the equation.Īnd one last time thru the tougher pile, with her only needing to say the answer (number) as quickly as she can. For example: “3 X 7 = 21”.Įngaging multiple senses, hearing the full equation out loud, while looking at the flashcard, helps with retention. Sometimes I go thru this pile, telling her the answers, but when I do I make sure to also say the question. Then we focus on the few cards in the more challenging pile. Any she needs a little more practice with go in another. If she knows the answer relatively fast, it goes in one pile. I shuffle them and show my daughter each flashcard, one at a time. It doesn’t take long at all, but it helps my daughter improve her active recall. How We Use The Multiplication FlashcardsĬurrently we use them for about 3 or 4 minutes every morning.
